About us

Maria Rheba (M.R.) Estante is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California. She provides individual EMDR consultation virtually to clinicians pursuing EMDRIA Certification. Clinicians must have completed EMDR Basic Training from an EMDRIA-Approved training provider. Consultees will be required to provide a copy of their EMDR trained Certificate. As a Consultant-in-Training (CIT) working under the direction of an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant, M.R. offers structured, case-centered guidance for EMDR-trained therapists seeking to strengthen their fidelity to the EMDR Standard Protocol and the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. Her consultation style emphasizes fidelity to the 8-Phase AIP model, clinical clarity, protocol accuracy, and focused exploration of blocking beliefs, especially within cases involving attachment and developmental trauma, religious trauma, and presentations of OCD with co-occurring PTSD.This professional service is consultation, not clinical supervision. It is available to EMDR-trained clinicians throughout the United States, regardless of licensure jurisdiction. The consultation process supports the integration of EMDRIA’s Minimum Training Standards (MTS) for Certification and helps clinicians build the clinical skills, precision, and competency needed to move toward EMDRIA Certified Therapist status.

Specialties for Consultation
🔹 Attachment & Developmental Trauma, Religious Trauma
🔹 OCD (Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder)
Important Clarification: EMDR & OCD
EMDR is not considered an evidence-based, stand-alone treatment for OCD.
However, for clients who present with both PTSD and OCD, trauma work can meaningfully reduce symptom severity.Clinical distinctions we will explore:
• Unresolved PTSD elevates baseline nervous system activation, increasing stress—and stress amplifies OCD loops.
• In real-event OCD, the obsessional theme is tied to an actual traumatic experience.
• Trauma intrusions = past-based, anchored in memory.
• OCD obsessions = future-based, anchored in fear of what could happen.
Goal of consultation:
Integrate trauma processing safely and effectively while maintaining clarity about when symptoms belong to PTSD, OCD, or both—and when ERP must remain the primary intervention.
